Hasami Porcelain - Walnut Lid/Tray 5"

$60.00

Simple geometry and the concept of modularity is the basis for this porcelain dinnerware made in Japan. Rather than following prescribed forms and functions (dinner plate, soup bowl, etc.) the collection consists of plates and bowls of various sizes that can be used interchangeably for both eating and serving. Glaze options round out the collection with matte Black, glossy Grey, and Natural options. Natural has a pleasing, variable color and texture that recalls soft sand. The porcelain plates and solid wooden trays double as lids or coasters.

Hasami Porcelain is from the historical town of Hasami in the Nagasaki prefecture of Japan and is made of a proprietary mixture of crushed stone from Amakusa traditionally used in this region for over 400 years. Due to the organic nature of making this type of porcelainware, color variation is normal and is caused by the uncontrollable chemical reaction between the glaze and raw materials during the extreme firing process. These changes in color and texture make each piece is one-of-a-kind and give Hasami Porcelain its special character.
